Black Balsam Knob Adventure engagement

For several years, I’ve always heard of other photographers shooting in “blue hour” which is a the period of twilight in the late dusk, or the very dawn of the morning, when the sun is at a significant distance below the horizon. To be honest, I’ve alway avoided this time of day until this session and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out. In fact, In this light, images come to life in a different way and I have fell madly in love with this lighting.

By the time Roxy and Tristan got to me, we literally had 45 minutes to hike up and start shooting. I wish I could insert a voice memo here of the thoughts racing through my head because I was like “WHAT?” “Can I make this happen?” Ya’ll I was nervous. Ha! As you can tell in the photos below, It was getting dark on us fast and we eventually ended up hiking down Black Balsam knob in the dark, which was an experience all in its own. Now, I don’t know if some of you are like me, but I use to watch “Are you scared of the dark?” in the 90’s and it still kinda follows me around til day. So, we were all huddle together as we walked down laughing because none of us had flashlights and I think we were all a little scared but WE MADE IT!

This session has got to be hands down one of my favorites. Not only because I shot in different lighting and felt like I grew as a creative but the experience made this session. We came out of those woods happy, scared, laughing and felt all the things. A huge thanks to Roxy and Tristan for being the rockstars that they are!
